Hurricane Irene ripped a swath of destruction from North Carolina to Maine during the final week of August but one of the unexpected casualties of the storm was the customer service delivered by Amtrak. The government-owned rail system extends more than 21,000 route miles, but employees at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia failed to extend some common courtesy to me and my family in the midst of the travel woes created by Irene.I have wide and varied interests.
