The True Spirit of Christmas...

As we get ever closer to Christmas, I look at my tree with all the presents wrapped and arranged beneath it, and I remember leaner times. Times when there were only two or three presents under the tree waiting to be unwrapped, all small and inexpensive, many hand-made because we could not afford store-bought presents, and I am reminded of the unexpected generosities I have been blessed with over the years.

It's that time of year again!

Cold weather and warm cocoa. Spending time with friends and family. Remembering to care for your fellow fellow human being.

And ... arguing over what to say to each other?!? What?!?

Should kids be on Facebook?

If I had been asked this 6 months ago, I would have thought the question was ridiculous and the answer a no-brainer. OF COURSE NOT! Facebook is a social network for adults. It is uncensored and contains plenty of material that is not appropriate for young children. However, my 9-year-old step-daughter (we'll call her Jenny) now has her own profile set up by her mother so she can play Facebook games.

No Longer Homeless...

I recently decided to start a campaign to collect needed linens and outerwear for the local homeless shelter and to use my Facebook account to spread the word. I've gotten a bunch of followers... but no donations yet. The goal is to deliver the donations on Christmas Eve, so hopefully people are sending stuff and I just haven't received it yet.

But that's not the topic today... one thing I discovered when I did this is that is surprised a lot of people that I cared. I don't like what that says about me but on some level I knew that... and that's why I'm trying to change it. I know my shortcomings, I just don't like having them pointed out to me.

Starting this whole blog thing...

I've been hearing about this blog thing now for a while. It seems that I can write down what's on my mind and publish it to the Internet and, if anybody actually cares what I have to say, they can follow it. Hmmm... another platform for me to share my opinions... I LIKE IT!

That said...


I will be posting on a variety of topics. Some will be rants. Some will be anecdotes. Some will be my opinions. Who knows what I will decide to share here! But, it should be interesting and I'd love feedback. So if, for some reason you've decided to follow this blog, post a comment and let me know what you think!
